Data Standards
How we collect, verify, and maintain fire department information.
Our Data Sources
USFireDept.com compiles fire department information from multiple publicly available sources:
- Government Registries — Federal and state records of registered fire departments, including the National Fire Department Registry.
- Direct Submissions — Fire departments that claim their page can update their own information, including contact details, photos, and descriptions.
- Public Records — Municipal and county records that document fire station locations, department types, and jurisdictional boundaries.
- Fire Service Professionals — A growing network of fire chiefs, firefighters, and industry professionals who contribute firsthand updates, corrections, and operational details not available through any other directory.
What We Provide
For each fire department listing, we aim to include the following when available:
Basic Information
Department name, address, phone number, station type (career, volunteer, combination), and county.
Department Details
Number of stations, active firefighters, apparatus count, and service area when reported.
Location
Geographic coordinates and interactive map showing the station location.
Premium Content
Departments that claim their page can add photos, custom descriptions, website links, and social media.
What We Cannot Guarantee
We believe in being honest about the limits of our data. Here is what we do not claim to provide:
- ✕Real-time staffing levels — We do not track which units are currently on duty or available. Staffing information reflects the most recent data reported, not live status.
- ✕Response times — We do not publish or estimate emergency response times. Response times depend on many factors that change constantly.
- ✕100% accuracy at all times — Fire departments merge, relocate, change phone numbers, and update their staffing. We update our records regularly, but there will always be a delay between a real-world change and our listing reflecting it.
- ✕Complete coverage — While we list thousands of departments, some smaller volunteer departments or newly formed agencies may not yet appear in our directory.
How to Update a Listing
If you are a fire department representative and your information is outdated or incorrect, the best way to keep it accurate is to claim your page. Once claimed, you can update your contact details, add photos, and manage your listing directly — anytime.
